Three Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Local Forums will be held in South Australia in June 2017 and July 2017 to provide grain growers and other industry stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss grains research, development and extension investments.
The GRDC’s Southern Regional Cropping Solutions Network (RCSN) is hosting the interactive forums at Maitland (medium rainfall zone) on June 20 2017, Cleve (low rainfall zone) on June 22 2017, and Lucindale (high rainfall zone) on July 6 2017.
Southern RCSN co-ordinator Jen Lillecrapp says the forums are yet another way for growers to engage directly with GRDC staff and members of the RCSN and GRDC Southern Panel.
“The Local Forums will provide those attending with a snapshot of key GRDC investments, and GRDC staff and leading research, development and extension (RD&E) partners will discuss how GRDC investments are assisting to address important issues for grain growers, as identified by the RCSN,” Mrs Lillecrapp said.
“The forums – a new concept – will provide local growers and other industry stakeholders with the opportunity to understand the latest findings and have direct input to shape future RD&E for the important issues which affect the profitability of growers.
“The forums are also a chance for us to confirm that the most important issues which impact on profitability of growers in the three rainfall zones in South Australia have been recognised by the RCSN.”
The Southern RCSN comprises 38 members – 21 growers, 13 advisers and four researchers, plus 10 members of the Southern Panel – who are spread throughout SA, Tasmania and Victoria.
“The RCSN provides a mechanism that further links the GRDC, local growers and industry stakeholders,” Mrs Lillecrapp said.
“The network helps to identify key issues and the contributing factors to subsequently assist the GRDC in planning and delivering RD&E to overcome the major constraints and capture the opportunities that will deliver the greatest benefit for growers.”
